I’m known in the UK for my recommendations for natural and organic products and services but must confess I am not aware of many of the cool brands in the states.  To that end I’ve invited a guest blogger Michael Peggs from the US to give us his thoughts and point to his faves….maybe time to stock up when I next visit…

Although skin health is largely genetic, there’s a lot that you can personally do to improve the look and feel of your skin. While there are some things you cannot change, for the most part, by adopting healthy eating habits, good skin care techniques, and a few other things, you can get the best skin of your life at any age. Let’s get into the four healthy habits for better skin.

  1.      Rethink your skin care regimen

The skin care regimen that you adopt should be personalized to your goal, as well as your unique skin. Some people have dry skin, others have oily skin, some people want to reduce wrinkles, while others would like to prevent aging. Regardless of what you want out of your skin care regimen, you should consult a professional and talk about your specific goals.  Its good to learn about all the products that achieve what you want and find the best organic options that don’t use harsh chemicals. The environment and your skin will thank you.

  1.      Use a cleanser that doesn’t strip away your natural oils

The natural oils on your body are essential to healthy skin growth. Therefore, you should only select natural skin care products that aren’t harsh on your skin. Products with chemicals from large pharmaceutical companies remove healthy oils from your face. Natural oils protect your skin, but are easy to remove, so find a nice cleanser and apply it gently with cotton balls. Instead of using a cleanser that removes this natural layer of protection because of the chemical build up, check out natural solutions on sites like Well Within Beauty that work with the body, not against it. You need all the natural oils that your skin creates working on your behalf, while mixing in great natural products that enhance your features and protect your body.

  1.      Clean out your pores with an exfoliant

Do you have dry skin? If so, don’t select the exfoliant that includes crushed volcanic rock known as pumice, unless you want to look like a volcanic rock. It might be good for dry areas of your body, like your skin for example, but it’s not the best for your face. Instead, use some raw honey to remove the dead skin cells from your skin’s outer layer. It might sound really weird, but a ½ teaspoon of honey to exfoliate can really do wonders!

  1.      Don’t forget to moisturize

The one thing that you don’t want to skimp out on is a good moisturizer. Select one that is easy on your skin. The last thing you want is to dry out your skin with a moisturizer, or do the opposite, by leaving your skin feeling oilier than a wet fish. When it comes to moisturizers, organic is the way to go, especially if you have sensitive skin. That way you’re not applying chemicals directly to your body, and you know exactly what ingredients make up the moisturizer.

What do you think about these 4 healthy habits for better skin? Is there any single one that has worked best for you? Do you have a technique that you believe works better? We’d love to hear your comments.
