As clients, we want to know if we can ‘like, know and trust’ the businesses we buy from and the people whose services we use, so in this series we talk to the Changemakers who are making a difference in the world and ask them to step out into the spotlight to tell us their story.

It’s the turn of Jane Pangbourne from Body Positivity Coaching

Tell us about yourself and what you do…

As the business name suggests I am a body positivity coach. I work with women of all ages, who have a poor self-perception which leads to anxiety and overwhelm; particularly where clothes are concerned.

Many women hoard clothes that don’t fit them, suit them or serve them well which has a huge impact on the way they feel about themselves as they look right now.

Although it’s never really about the clothes; this is often a great place to start when looking at a person’s unrealistic self-perception and low self-esteem.

How did you get started?

When I reached the age of 48/49, I decided to make some changes to my own self-perception which had itself become quite warped and unrealistic. This very quickly transformed into the support and guidance I offer to women all over the world.

Using both my life experiences and career skills, I have been able to develop a unique approach to helping women accept themselves for who they are right now, and my programmes allow them to move forward more quickly and with greater success than if they were trying to do this unsupported.

What were you doing in a previous life?

I worked within the post 16 training and development sector for over 20 years, including running a successful training company for 8 of those. I’ve been privileged to support the personal development of people from all walks of life in my career, which spanned a wide variety of needs including those of ex-offenders and the long term unemployed.

Why holistic?

A while ago I wouldn’t have described what I do as Holistic but…

Holistic ischaracterised by the belief that the parts of something are intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole”

So, for that reason I wholeheartedly believe my services and support fall into that category, quite simply because my main message to my clients is always that their negative talk and clothes buying habits are inherently linked to how they feel about themselves; so, we need to make some seemingly unconnected changes to see and feel a difference.

What’s your USP? What sets you apart from your competitors?

My USP is that I have experienced many of the challenges experienced by my clients and I am happier and more confident in my body than I have ever been! and at the age of 51 I don’t shy away from anything they want to talk about.

I liken myself to that experienced and honest friend who has your back and will never lie to you.

What kind of feedback you have received from clients?

Jane reinforced all the positive things about my body which I had forgotten about. After my time with Jane I don’t let the less perfect parts drag me down anymore, I celebrate the best parts. Thanks Jane (Emma)

I know I found you at the right time Jane; like bang on! All the silliness about weight. I got it so wrong. I got out of my own way. I would never have done it if it hadn’t been for you” (R.C)

What’s the next big project coming up for you?

In addition to my current active free closed fb group, I am going to be opening a membership group in 2019, to enable me to give even more value to women for a very low monthly fee. This will make my services more accessible to women who may not have the time to invest in a longer programme of development.

What’s your big dream?

I don’t have dreams as such – I am a pragmatist, so anything I want to do, I just give it a go and it either works or it doesn’t!

I would however, really like to extend my business offer to men as well as women when I have the resources in place. Body Positivity applies to both men and women, so my hope would be to grow the business to the point of being able to expand into the area of male body positivity.
