What does ‘Imperfectly’ Natural mean?

It means lets try and look after the planet and our own health in the process but lets not beat ourselves up – lets think ‘small change big difference’ and do the bits we can.

Is this the same Janey Lee Grace who chips in with Steve Wright on Radio 2?

Oh yes, Steve Wright and Tim Smith – though being cynics, allow me to wax lyrical about all things ‘holistic’ See ‘cynics corner’.

What’s the idea behind it all?

I spent so much time answering individual emails to say which deo/organic cotton / light box / face oil I used it made sense to write a book. It went to number 1 on the Amazon Best Sellers list and I realised there’s a huge interest in ‘green /natural’ living.

Who is it aimed at?

Absolutely everyone, all ages, even Imperfectly Natural Woman is for men (just the one chapter on feminine care’ that I advise you to skip…but you guys read that first anyways)... Baby and Toddler is for everyone with young kids, inc carers, grandparents etc.  The books make great gifts !

What if I’m just too busy to Reduce, Re-use, Recycle…?

Make it easy for yourself – and fun. Save cash and time by revamping old stuff rather than buying new (vintage is cool remember). For food buying forget the supermarket and its packaging, take a basket or jute bag to the local farmers' market and pick up SEASONAL provisions or grow your own – cheat if you like with www.rocketgardens.co.uk.

You talk ‘natural skincare’, what should I avoid?

Most ‘high street’ stuff sadly. Look at ingredients as you would on processed foods. Avoid parebens, preservatives, petrochemicals, alcohol, ‘parfum’ – synthetic fragrances.  many of the companies I recomend state clealry whats NOT in their product.

I can’t afford organic food and expensive skincare – how can I be ‘natural’

If you tot up what you spend on processed foods and regular cleaning/laundry products in the average supermarket, I reckon I can save you a fortune. A few ‘supply on demand’ items are more costly, but you’ll save masses if you buy your own fruit and veg, cook from scratch and use eco/natural laundry stuff.  Of course its easy to make your own diy skincare / bathtime stuff

You promote certain companies on your directory and indeed you seem to take ‘advertising’, are you on commission from those companies ? Won’t that ‘affect’ your recommendations?

So glad you asked! I do not accept commission/affiliate schemes from anyone, I want to remain neutral. I will only promote / endorse / accept advertisements form those products/companies/services that I personally use, or have on good recommendation from close colleagues (always good to have another view – see Imperfectly Natural People and…...parents in the books).

Are you paid by companies/organisations to mention them in your books ?

Nope, as above. I ‘mention’ them because I like/use them. Many don’t even know they’re plugged till their product starts mysteriously selling out!   I usually approach them eventually to say would you like to be on the website.

If your earn profits from this website do you support charities?

Certainly. There are a number of charities that I support and several that I’m patron of.  The main charity that benefits from any profits made after the costs of this website are met is Yestolife.  (offering alternatives for people with cancer)  Also I’d like to set up a charity to help fund resources to teach kids how to be 'natural', i.e. green and responsible for their own health and the planet – without giving up much cake and eat it styley!

I own/support a small company making natural products – how can we be featured on your site?

I love finding new natural/fair trade stuff to promote – send an email in the first instance to: janey@imperfectlynatural.com

I disagree with your preferred products and wish to recommend others. How do I do this ?

Fab – bring on more tips! Join our thriving Forum.

I'd like to be a 'guinea pig' to test out natural  products, can you help ?

Certianly, some companies offer products to a bunch of testers, we'd appreiciate a short review fro our 'what really works' section of the site.  To be included send an email marked what really works to the above email addy,

What’s for the future?

Well, I’d like to do for eco/natural living what Jamie did for school dinners but we’ll see… Any TV producers reading this - don’t wait till someone else has flown the 'green/natural card'…you do it! My agent is Tony Fitzpatrick www.peoplematter.tv.
