Let me ask you a question – would you go to any dentist in any town for your routine check-up? Are you happy to go to any hairdresser who has an appointment? The answer will be no! – we do business with those we like, know, and trust!

As customers we want to know if we can ‘like, know, and trust’ the companies we buy from, so in this series we ask the person behind some of my favourite natural and organic companies to step out into the spotlight.

It’s the turn of Maggie Howell from Turmerlicious.

Tell us about yourself and your company…How did you get started?

I first started making a version of golden milk for my family of 5 boys back in January 2016, after I first heard about the benefits of turmeric. Initially I was not super keen on the flavour so I started adding different flavours that we all liked and soon came up with a combination that we all loved. The whole family started drinking it pretty much every day after school, or in the evening. After about three months I started to notice subtle changes – no sniffles, coughs, colds, me and my sons eczema had gone, we had more energy, the boys were calmer….now it could have just been coincidence, who knows.

As other friends tried it they all commented that it was completely NOT what they expected (you don’t taste the turmeric) and that it just made them feel so good. As one friend said, “it makes my mouth feel happy”.  It was a good friend who suggested I start selling it, as she does not like hot drinks but she loved mine!

What were you doing in a previous life?

I have run a business called Natal Hypnotherapy which specialises in hypnosis for pregnancy and birth. I have run that business for 15 years and helped over 100,000 women to feel more positive about birth.

Why natural/organic/sustainable?

I am very conscious about eating healthily and make sure my boys are well educated in what they put in their bodies.

What’s your USP? What sets you apart from your competitors?

A form of Golden Milk has been around for centuries in Asia however in the west we are just catching up.  The difference with Turmerlicious is that it is instant so takes away the faff of making your own, plus prevents you from having permanently yellow fingers!  There are a couple of other turmeric lattes out there, but ours is the only one that contains approx. 1.5g turmeric per serving which is the recommended daily amount for optimum health (from the university of Maryland).

What kind of feedback have you received from customers?

Really brilliant.  In fact I have been really surprised how much clients have found it has benefited their health. You can see on our Facebook page how it has helped.  One lady said it has helped to clear her psoriasis, another lady says it is helping control her chronic pain, another says it is keeping her arthritis under control. What has also been lovely is how many people just love it as an alternative to tea and coffee.

What’s the next big launch / project coming up for you?

We plan on bringing out a sugar free version (the current ones have a small amount of coconut nectar which is still a form of sugar). We also plan on bringing out savoury versions.

What’s your big dream?

I guess for the standard phrase to move on from “tea or coffee?” to “tea, coffee or Turmerlicious?”.

Where can we find your products?

Currently from www.turmerlicious.com, on Amazon and in independent healthfood shops.  We will be in Holland and Barrett in a couple of months’ time
