I read a fascinating factoid recently – More photos have been taken worldwide in the last five  years than in the whole of history.  Isn’t that incredible? I’m guessing video ranks up there too.  Graduations, birthdays, and family holidays are some of the special moments in life that we should all cherish. These precious moments deserve to be preserved.  I asked journalism student Ronnie Markham to write this piece.

Photo Books

One of the best ways to make memories last a lifetime is to create custom photo books  I remember someone created one for a family holiday and I treasure it years later.  This can be tricky though for the average person but with the help of companies like Shutterfly its effortless.. They have a professional design team who can create beautiful layouts for a special album. All that you need to do is to send the pictures and they will do the rest. Alternatively, there are also templates that are available if you want to have more control over what the finished version looks like.

Canvas Prints

If photo papers are too conventional for you, consider printing pictures in a unique material like canvas. This has unique texture compared to traditional paper. These prints will also make nice decorative touches for your home. For the best canvas prints, visit Shutterfly.com.

Treasure Chest

A simple treasure chest is also a great way to cherish your life’s special moments. It can contain anything that will make you feel nostalgic in the years to come, such as a baby’s first pair of socks, tickets to the family’s first theme park visit, and random photos from special events like birthdays and holidays.

Online Journal

If you are the type of person who loves to write, try the best online diaries to document the special moments in your life. It can be very therapeutic journalling daily. Since it is online, there is no need to worry that you will lose it. You can access your online journal anytime and anywhere through your smartphone. It will make you laugh and cry as you reminisce.

Ring-Binder Folder

This is one of the simplest and cheapest ways to cherish special moments. Buy a ring-binder folder that comes with transparent envelopes. All that you need to do is to fill the envelopes with precious keepsakes, including drawings of children, admission letters or school reports, boarding passes from epic vacations, and photos from moments worth preserving.

Videos

Pictures are nice but videos are even better. You don’t need an expensive professional camera to record videos of special moments. Your smartphone is more than enough. To make sure that the videos will not be deleted, keep them in online video storage with secure access.

Love Letters

Love letters are romantic, even in the age of social media. It is also another good way to cherish the precious moments in your life. For instance, on the birth of your first baby, write a love letter and include pictures. When your child is old enough, he or she will surely appreciate the effort. A love letter is a great way to make photo albums more interesting.

Special notebooks  Picking up on the love letters, you could create a little notebook which you keep and record special things you notice about your loved ones, then on a special birthday present it to them

Gratitude box or jar  Every day write down something you are grateful for, or pop a small printed photograph into your gratitude box or jar, when things don’t go so well or you are feeling a bit glum, open up the notes, look at the pictures and remind yourself that you have so much to be grateful for.

Do not let special memories in your life fade.! Cherish and preserve these moments through photo albums, canvas prints, treasure chests, and love letters, among others.
