Owens coffee has been roasting 100% certified Organic and Fairtrade coffee since 2010, the first dedicated Organic coffee roaster in the South West. Sustainability has been at the heart of the business from day one, looking after the people and communities involved in the production of their coffee, as well as the environment. Owens Coffee beans are Arabica beans and are generally shade-grown at higher altitudes, organically grown; naturally with no chemicals and more slowly, which contributes to a fuller flavour profile. Farmers are Fairtrade, which means they are paid a fair price and have the assurance of good working conditions. Certified by the Soil Association with full traceability from farmer to importer.

Jabulani
Jabulani is a specialty coffee with purpose! Grown by the mainly-female Twongerekawa Coko cooperative, Jabulani Rwandan coffee beans have been produced as the result of a partnership between Owens Coffee, Jabo Butera of the Diversity Business Incubator (DBI) in Plymouth and Plymouth’s Jabulani Food Court, run by Liliane Uwimana.
Behind Jabulani is a story of togetherness and a vision for improving communities and developing leadership. The coffee offers sweet notes of cherry, hibiscus and vanilla. These specialty grade beans reached a cupping score of 84 in 2022. We recommend Jabulani for both filter and espresso.

Romero
Sweet with caramel tones, this speciality single estate coffee from the Romero family in Honduras. 100% Arabica Fairtrade and organic coffee beans, recommended for filter.
Owens has a direct link to farmer Deybi Omar Romero, the son of founding partner Jesus Romero of the COCAFCAL cooperative, Honduras. Along with the support of his mother María Julia Albertina Moreno, Deybi continues the legacy of his father producing a micro lot of premium grade organic coffee.
Continued support has enabled the farm to constantly improve and develop farming methods, proving that it is possible to make a direct and positive impact on the life of coffee farmers, in turn, benefitting from the opportunity to offer a fully traceable, great tasting coffee. Medium roasted for a creamy body, with chocolaty brown sugar undertones.
