As we head to summer how about harnessing the power of flowers for our skincare and beauty. You’ve heard the expression ‘wake up and smell the roses’, well is seems this special flower is way more than just fragrant petals. The essential oil derived from the rose plant has many benefits, from easing anxiety and stress, easing menstrual discomfort, increasing ‘feel good hormones’ relaxation, self-esteem, and of course soothing irritated skin.
Lavender essential oil is also fabulous in skincare and beauty products, it promotes relaxation, and can help with anxiety, allergies, insomnia and it also has antiseptic properties.
To that end lots of natural brands use these fragrances in their products, here’s a few of my current favourites.
Have you tried a facial bar? Kentish Soap are a family run business, specialists at soap, lovingly handmade in small batches, made using the traditional cold process method with skin nourishing oils, including avocado oil, olive oil, Shea butter and coconut oil, along with natural essential oils for fragrance, and botanicals and clays for colour. Their new Rose Clay Facial Bar smells divine, scented with Rose Geranium essential oil (soothing and balancing) and Frankincense essential oil. It also has rose hip oil, which is naturally regenerating and nourishing for the skin and rose clay is celebrated for its healing powers, gently exfoliating your skin to help to draw out impurities and keeping it soft and supple. www.kentishsoap.com
Handmade Naturals is a Cheshire based artisan brand offering 100% natural skin & hair care products. Their bestselling face cleansing lotion Organic Rose, Hemp & Jojoba Facial Cleanser is made with Bulgarian Rose, Organic Hemp & Golden Jojoba oil, it comes in a bottle with a pump dispenser for ease of use, and it’s suitable for normal & dry skin, this lotion also doubles up as a light daytime moisturiser for oily skin. www.handmadenaturals.co.uk

The damask rose is known for its moisturizing, soothing and smoothing effect on wrinkles and fine lines. Rose floral water soothes sensitive skin with redness and works wonders on acne-prone skin. Use as a facial toner, a light makeup cleanser, a body spray to moisturize, a natural and gentle perfume, a makeup fixing spray, a mild deodorant, to treat the scalp and hair and to soothe the skin after shaving.
